November 11, 2024 Improved IP Access Control
Overview:
We’ve made an important update to how IP restrictions work for module access in Jarvis Analytics. Think of it like putting locks on specific doors in an office building—only people with the right keys (or in this case, assigned access groups) need to worry about those locks. This update makes sure that only the users who need IP-based restrictions are impacted, while others can continue to access the modules without any problems.
Details of the Update:
Before, if one group with IP restrictions was linked to a module, everyone with access to that module was affected by those restrictions, even if they didn’t belong to the restricted group. With this update, IP restrictions now apply only to users in the specific group assigned to the restricted access, leaving everyone else free to use the module as usual.
Why This Matters:
This update offers a more precise way to control who faces IP-based limitations, ensuring that only users who actually need these restrictions are impacted. It fixes unintentional access issues for users who shouldn’t be restricted, creating a smoother experience for everyone.
Recommended Actions:
To get ready for this update, we suggest administrators:
- Double-check that users needing IP-based access restrictions are correctly assigned to the right access groups.
- Confirm that users who don’t require restrictions aren’t included in those restricted groups.
You can manage or adjust IP restrictions by going to Configuration > Modules > Module Access Groups.
